When I was a child, I always dream about becoming a lawyer. I find a career as a lawyer is very fascinating because of the attire and the confidence. However, God had a better plan for me; I ended up joining UiTM’s business school instead of the law school. I was very frustrated because I wanted to become a lawyer so badly. I cried for days but my parents were very supportive and they said to give it a go at business. I reluctantly agreed but I managed to finish my diploma in business studies in 2003.
I hated math ever since I was little. I have to struggle to pass the mathematic subjects. I passed the final examination with 3.21 which I think was suffice to my laziness back then because I have no interest at all in business. But, I still pursued my degree in international business in UiTM Melaka and graduated with a 3.18 cgpa. The reason I wanted pursue degree in International Business because I wanted to become a business consultant. Within 10 years I see myself as an established business consultant. I want to set up my own consulting firm and help organizations improve their performance, primarily through the analysis of existing business problems and development of plans for improvement. I see management consulting has huge potential as far as business opportunity is concerned.
But, in order to become business consultant, experience is very crucial. Experience is the best teacher of all in consulting. How to consult people if I only learn it from the book? Of course, I have to work in a Multinational corporation to gain knowledge and experience in business field. Maybe after 5 years or so, I will become a manager and I will pursue my PHD. I am very sure that people will go for a business consultant who has a doctorate in the field rather than those who only graduated with MBA. Why business consultant? The answer is simple, it is because business consultants are respected and relied upon in every industry in every country. Consultants are admired for both their expertise and their independence. Imagine having a high paying career where executives turn to me for direction in running their businesses. As a business consultant I will help businesses and other organizations identify problems, and I will recommend solutions to those problems.
According to research from Harvard Business School, the business consulting industry generates about $100 billion in annual revenues from U.S. consultants. Especially in a slow economy, companies need business consultants to help them increase revenues and cut costs. In catching up with the advanced technologies nowadays, I will do an online consultation for clients from oversea. Not only I have a firm in real world but I also can get in touch to my potential clients virtually.
